The Wesmen Women's Volleyball team came up short in theirbid to capture the BOB FM Volleyball Challenge Championship after they dropped a close 3-2 decision to the Regina Cougars on Sunday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre. Winnipeg had a perfect 4-0 record going into the final and continued their strong play with a dominating 25-14 first set victory. But Regina hung tough, turning things around and taking the next two sets. The Wesmen stormed back in the third, winning 25-14 and setting the stage for a fifth and final set. The teams battled back and forth but ultimately the Cougars prevailed with a hard fought 16-14 victory, winning the match and the tournament championship. Regina was led by tournament MVP, 3rd year left side Falin Schaefer, with 16 kills and 4 digs. Teammate, and tournament All-star 4th year middle Kristin Armstrong added 9 kills and 3 digs as well. The Wesmen saw great performances from 4th year middle Andrea Charbonneau notching 17 kills and 11 digs, while 3rd year left side Jocelyne Roy picked up 15 kills to go along with 6 digs. Both were named Tournament All-stars for their efforts.
