CJOB/POWER 97 INVITATIONAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT FINAL RESULTS

WOMENS TOURNAMENT

The Wesmen Women finished the CJOB/Power 97 Invitational Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, taking home the Championship trophy after a final victory over the Western Mustangs. Coach Diane Scott felt the Western team was a good match-up for her Wesmen.

"They challenged us, they were a big physical team that played well at the net," said Scott. Overall Scott was happy with the Wesmen play throughout the tournament and saw some maturity and growth on the court.

"We accomplished our goal - which was to go 5-0," said Scott. Aynsley Laluk and Andrea Charbonneau led the team with stellar performances all weekend. Charbonneau finished with a 45-50% kill ratio and Laluk wasn't far behind clocking in at 30%.

"Anything above 30% is excellent," said Scott. Charbonneau was also named top blocker in the tournament and Laluk was the Niki Redekop Memorial Player's Choice Award winner.

In a tournament where the top teams took turns beating up on each other, Alberta coach Richard Schick felt fortunate to come away with the win.

"For the first kick at the can it's nice to come out on top," said Schick. "But it's still early and if we're happy with that we're in trouble. Alberta opens their Can West season against the Winnipeg Wesmen in Edmonton on Oct.25&26.
