Ticket Information:
Tournament passes are on sale in the Customer Service Centre (Main Level, Duckworth Centre) until 6:00 pm on Monday, December 22th. The University of Winnipeg will re-open for the Classic at 9:00 am on Saturday, December 27th. Tickets are available for purchase during the tournament.
Tournament passes are $15.00, and are valid for all 32 games. Day passes are available on game days only. Prices for day passes are as follows:
Dec. 27 $4.00 (8 games - 4 high school, 4 community classic)
Dec. 28 $6.00 (10 games - 4 university, 2 high school, 4 community)
Dec. 29 $6.00 (7 games - 4 university, 2 high school, junior varsity final)
Dec. 30 $8.00 (7 games - 4 university, 3 high school)

FAST BREAK FACTS
· The Wesmen Classic (then known as the Golden Boy) was founded in 1967 by Vic Pruden, the first coach of the Wesmen.
· The tournament has had its home in Riddell Hall, the Winnipeg Arena, the Winnipeg Convention Centre and for the last 20 years at the Duckworth Centre.
· It is the longest running university tournament in Canada.
· It is the largest tournament (68 teams) of its kind in Canada.
· Wesmen Assistant Coach Matej Maroti scored a tournament record 46 points against Lethbridge in the 1998 Wesmen Classic. The Pronghorns were then coached by current Wesmen Coach Dave Crook.
· The 2003 edition of the tournament will have over 1000 participants.
· University of Winnipeg Athletic Director Bill Wedlake coached in 32 consecutive tournaments.
· The name change from Golden Boy to Wesmen Classic was made in 1977 to give the University of Winnipeg more recognition.
Promotional Activities:
The financial support of MTS Mobility ensures that tournament organizers can continue to put on a first class show for the local sports community. In addition to the outstanding action on the court, there are several interesting and exciting activities designed to make the Classic fun and entertaining from the opening tipoff to the final buzzer.
A few highlights of our promotional schedule include:
1. Santa’s High Flyin’ Slam Jam (presented by Converse)
Now in its 6th year, this event is the promotional highlight of the tournament. Eight CIS basketball stars show their “STUFF” in a slam dunk contest. One player from each team will compete during halftime of the semi-finals on Monday, December 29, with the top four performers squaring off at halftime of the final on Tuesday night.
2. The “Top Gun” Shootout
Eight high school players competing in a 3 point shooting contest at halftime of the December 28th 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm games. The four “top guns” will face off during halftime of the high school final on December 30th at halftime of the High School final. Each shooter has 30 seconds to hit as many three point baskets as possible. The “Top Gun” wins a team set of warm-up jerseys for his school, compliments of Winnipeg Outfitters, Saxon Athletics and the Winnipeg Wesmen.
3. In-Game Contests and Prizes
We will also be running a variety of contests and promotions throughout the tournament.
- “It Pays To Be An MTS Mobility Customer” - Each night, one lucky MTS Mobility customer will win a great prize, just for being the first fan to bring their MTS Mobility cellular phone to our designated phone spotter.
