Wesmen hang on for victory over Memorial

Memorial's Jenine Brown had a chance to tie the game from the line with four seconds left, but could only hit one of them - giving the Wesmen a 55-54 victory over the Sea-Hawks in a CIS Exhibition Women's Basketball game at the Duckworth Centre on Sunday. Winnipeg seemed to have the game in hand with a ten point lead with under three minutes left, but Memorial went on an 8-0 run to set up the dramatic finish. Heather Thompson led a trio of Wesmen in double-digit scoring with 16 points, while Uzo Asagwara and JoAnne Wells added 13 and 12 points respectively. Wells also had 11 rebounds. Brown, Amy Dalton and Kate Flynn all had 13 points for Memorial. The Wesmen won both of their weekend games with Memorial. Winnipeg next sees action on Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. when they resume their Canada West Conference regular season play against the much-improved Brandon Bobcats at the Duckworth Centre.
