2:00 pm Ft. Richmond 64 John Taylor 48
The unranked John Taylor Pipers gave the No. 2 Fort Richmond Centurions a bit of a scare in the opening game of the MTS Mobility Wesmen Classic played at the Duckworth Centre on Friday afternoon. But with the score tied 36-36 ten minutes into the second half the Centurions turned on the jets, and a tired Pipers team ran into foul trouble as Fort Richmond outscored John Taylor 28-12 down the stretch to post a 64-48 victory. Fort Richmond’s Dele Legris led Fort Richmond with 15 points while Enes Jeina added another 14. John Taylor had 14 points each from Scott Olynick and Neil Campbell.

3:45 pm Silver Heights 75 Daniel Mac 74
With 4.6 seconds left in the game and Silver Heights down by one, Anuj Sharma drove the length of the court to lay the ball in just as the horn sounded to end the contest, giving the No. 6 Huskies a thrilling 75-74 upset victory over the No. 3 Daniel MacIntyre Maroons. Silver Heights was led by Sharma’s 23 points, while Todd Christenson chipped in 16. Milan Bijelijanin knocked down 24 points and Mark Molinar added 20 in a losing cause for the Maroons. Silver Heights now faces Fort Richmond in the Championship semi-final tomorrow at 5:00 pm at the Duckworth Centre.

5:30 pm River East 69 St. Paul’s 47
The top ranked River East Kodiaks knocked off the St. Paul’s Crusaders 69-47 to win their first game of the MTS Mobility Wesmen Classic. The Kodiaks led 28-19 at the half and kept the pressure on St. Paul’s in the second frame en route to the 22 point victory. Chris Dyck had 23 points to lead River East and Jamie Moses added 11 to aid the Kodiak cause. Justin Jones had 23 points for the Crusaders.

7:15 pm Kelvin 63 Oak Park 40
A battle of top-ten ranked teams turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Kelvin Clippers socked it to the Oak Park Raiders in the final game of the opening day of the Wesmen Classic. Kelvin was propelled by 12 points from Josh Sjoberg and 9 from Vinit Elimban in the 23 point victory. Oak Park was led by Kevin Gooch’s 12 points. Kelvin now takes on River East in the other Championship semi-final, Sunday at 4:15 pm at the Duckworth Centre.
