In a battle of the top two Junior Varsity Boys Basketball teams in the province, Sisler proved too much for Miles Macdonell to handle as the Spartans dominated the Converse Wesmen Classic final in a 57-32 win. Sisler got 20 points from tournament MVP Xavier Smith and 9 each from Lucky Montierro and Kasey Batson (three 3-pointers) in the victory. Dario Mamula had 11 points and Jordan Jaskiewicz added 8 for Miles Mac.

Lakehead 62 Guelph 53
Jeff Rosar had 18 points as Lakehead knocked off Guelph 62-53 to earn a berth in the Wesmen Classic Consolation final. Chris Swenson and Dan Zapior added 12 each to lead the Thunderwolves. Guelph’s Mike Ayanbadejo had a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in a losing cause.

RMC 65 Manitoba 55
RMC marched right into the Wesmen Classic Consolation final with a 65-55 win over the Manitoba Bisons. The Paladins led 33-24 at the half and held the lead until the final buzzer in the 10 point victory. The Paladin's Kevin Dulude turned in a second straight 30 plus point effort, pouring in 35 to go with 9 rebounds. Bayode Ajayi chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds for RMC while David Wiebe's 18 points and 8 boards was tops for the Bisons. The Paladins take on Lakehead in Monday's Consolation final.

Kelvin 60 River East 57
The Kelvin Clippers upset the No. 2 ranked River East Kodiaks in an exciting, down to the wire Wesmen Classic High School Boys Championship semi-final at the Duckworth Centre. Russell Taylor calmly sank two free throws to put Kelvin up by 3 with 15 seconds left in the game and a desperation three-pointer by Chris Dyck fell short, landing the Clippers a berth in Monday night's Championship final against the No. 1 Fort Richmond Centurions. River East led 33-25 at the half, but with top scorer Dyck on the bench with four fouls, saw Kelvin take a seven point lead with six minutes left. A 9-2 run sparked by Dyck's return to the floor got the Kodiaks back in the game, but the Clippers were able to hold them off for the win. Kelvin got 16 points from Damir Osmanovic and 15 from Buisi Okwumabua in the victory. Jamie Moses hit for 22 points, while Dyck had 18 for the Kodiaks.

WESMEN 79 Ottawa 68
The Wesmen hung a 14-0 run on a suddenly cold-shooting Ottawa Gee-Gee's team to push their lead to 19 points with just over four minutes left to play in the game, propelling Winnipeg to an eventual 79-68 win in the Championship Semi-final of the Wesmen Classic. The win puts Winnipeg in Monday night's tournament final. Erfan Nasajpour once again sparked the Wesmen attack hitting for 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Back court mate Aldin Smalling added 12 while forward Tony Richter notched himself a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Ottawa was led by Johnathan Daniel's 14 points and Alex McLeod chipped in with 12.

Alberta 70 Calgary 67
In a hard-fought, up-tempo Wild Rose Country War, the No. 6 Alberta Golden Bears eked out a 70-67 decision over provincial rival the No. 8 Calgary Dinos in Wesmen Classic Championship semi-final action at the Duckworth Centre. An inside lay-up by Phil Sudol, following a three-point play the previous trip down the floor, put No. 6 Alberta up by two with 33 seconds left and the Golden Bears used a couple of late free throws to salt away the victory. With the win Alberta advances to the final against the Winnipeg Wesmen on Monday at 8:00 pm. Sudol was tops for Alberta with 15 points with Brandon Park and Phil Scherer adding 11 each for the Golden Bears. John Riad led all scorers with 27 points and 8 rebounds for Calgary. Backcourt teammate Whit Hornsberger chipped in with 16 in a losing cause.
