The Guelph Gryphons rode a solid effort from front court duo Radhi Knapp and Michael Ayanbadejo to notch their first win of the tournament with a
68-59 win over the Manitoba Bisons in the 7th place game of the Wesmen Classic. Knapp led the Gryphons with 26 points and 7 rebounds, while Ayanbadejo kicked in another 18 to go along with 10 boards. The Bisons got 15 points and 6 boards from Chris Hildebrand and 14 points from Ryan Dulder.

RMC 53 Lakehead 56
Dan Zapior hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Lakehead Thunderwolves past the RMC Paladins in the Consolation Final of the Wesmen Classic. RMC’s Bayode Ajayi missed the front end of a bonus with 15 seconds left and the score tied at 53-53, setting the stage for Zapior’s heroics. Zapior led Lakehead with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Jeff Rosar added 12. Kevin Dulude had another big game for the Paladins, hitting for 26 points and picking up 14 rebounds. It was an outstanding tournament performance for the 3rd year 6"4' forward as he averaged 32 points and 10.6 rebounds over 3 games.

Ottawa 50 Calgary 75
The Calgary Dinos laid a lickin’ on the Ottawa Gee-Gee’s in a battle for 3rd place during the final day of action at the Wesmen Classic. The Dinos led 40-23 at the half and never looked back the rest of the way in the 25 point victory. Dino Chris Wright fronted the Calgary attack with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Harris added 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Dinos as well. Jermaine Campbell’s 10 points was tops for the Gee-Gee’s.

Kelvin 58 Ft. Richmond 60
The Fort Richmond Centurions held off a determined Kelvin Clippers team to win the High School Varsity Boys Section of the 36th MTS Mobility Wesmen Classic at the Duckworth Centre Monday night. Tournament MVP Dele Legris blocked a driving lay-up by Kelvin’s Jhonnathan Menjivar with 13 seconds left to preserve a two-point lead, giving No. 1 ranked Fort Richmond their first Wesmen Classic tournament championship since 1978. Kelvin led 34-25 at the half and were up by as much as 13 in the second frame, until some full court pressure allowed the Centurions to claw their way back in the game. Legris was front and centre for Fort Richmond hitting for 28 points, while teammate and tournament All-star Enes Jeina added another 23. Tournament All-star Damir Osmanovic had a game-high 28 points for Kelvin and Buisi Okwumabua, Jhonnathan Menjivar (also a tournament All-star )and Russell Taylor each contibuted 7 to the Clipper total.

WESMEN 64 Alberta 78
The No. 6 ranked Alberta Golden Bears won their third Wesmen Classic Championship by downing the home town Winnipeg Wesmen 78-64 in front of 1900 fans at the Duckworth Centre on Monday night. Tournament MVP Phil Scherer hit a 3-pointer to put the Golden Bears up by 13 with 7:20 left in the game and the Wesmen couldn’t get it back under 10, as Alberta cruised to the finish line to claim the Championship hardware. Winnipeg was down 32-30 at the half, but couldn’t put a dent in a strong Alberta team game in the final 20 minutes. The home team hasn’t won a Wesmen Classic Championship since 1994. Alberta was led by Scherer’s 26 points and tournament All-star Phil Sudol’s 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Wesmen saw another great effort from tournament All-star guard Erfan Nasajpour as his 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals led the team. Aldin Smalling and tournament All-star Dan Duggan pitched in with 13 points each.
