Australian Samuel Drummond Commits To Men's Baseball Program

University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Baseball head coach Morgan de Pena has gone "down under" for his latest recruit. de Pena is pleased to announce the commitment of Samuel Drummond (Seaford, Victoria, Australia) to the Wesmen Men's Baseball program for the start of the 2017-2018 NAIA season.

Drummond a 6'1" outfielder graduated from John Paul College High School and was a member of the Springvale Lions Baseball Club (Melbourne). He was a member of the Victorian State Championship team (Winter) and was named an All-Star at both the Under 18 (Starting Nine) and Under 23 (Open Men's) squads.

"Sammy is a very bright and talented young man who is very coachable and has an amazing desire to learn. He brings speed, agility and range to the outfield. He hits line to line and has a great eye, battling each pitch along with competing and making plays. He comes from an International program that competes stateside, and I look forward to him being a big asset for us", said de Pena.

An accomplished student-athlete, he has received several high school academic awards for both Physics and Math. He recently competed in the Australian Mathematics National Competition.

He has spent time coaching a Little League baseball team and umpired underage Football in the local district Australian Rules Football League.
