A pair of standout performances have earned two Winnipeg Wesmen volleyball players weekly conference honours.
Daniel Thiessen of the Wesmen men's volleyball team was named the Canada West conference's male second star of the week, while Rylie Dickson of the women's team was named Canada West female third star of the week.
Thiessen, a fourth-year outside hitter from Glenlawn Collegiate, amassed 42 kills and 49.5 total points — both career-highs for a weekend series — in a pair of victories over the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack.
Thiessen set a season-high with 21 kills in a four-set win on Friday and made just four errors on 42 swings. He added 12 digs for his fourth double-double of the season and finished with 24.5 points, which was a season-high to that point.
Thiessen was back at it on Saturday with another 21 kills in a five-set win while hitting .217 and amassing 25 total points, tying a career-high.
The Wesmen volleyball teams are both on the road at UBC-Okanagan this weekend.
Dickson, a fifth-year setter from Killarney, Man., tied Christa Desrochers for the Wesmen women's volleyball Canada West program record for assists in a career with 2,376 after putting up 73 total assists in a weekend split with Thompson Rivers.
On Friday, she led an offence that hit .228 with a match-high 37 assists to upset the No. 8-ranked Wolfpack and hand TRU its first straight-sets loss of the season.
Dickson added 11 digs on both nights, the eighth time this season she has notched double-digit digs.
Dickson currently stands fourth in Canada West in assists per set and is tied for first in the conference among setters in digs.
