LOS ANGELES BASKETBALL STAR WILL JOIN THE WESMEN

WINNIPEG, June 20,2003 - The University of Winnipeg and the Wesmen Men’s Basketball program would like to announce that Michael Gomez, a star player for Canoga Park High School in Los Angeles, will come to Canada and continue his studies and basketball career at the University of Winnipeg.

During Michael’s high school career he averaged 16.9 points 13.5 rebounds and 7 assists per game. He was a Division and Conference All-Star. After high school Michael went on to play College basketball at 3 different levels moving from JUCO (Gavilan College) to NCAA Division 2 (St. Martin’s University) and spent last year as a redshirt for NCAA Divsion 1 (University of Portland).

Michael is also a solid student with a 3.4 GPA and is excited to be coming to the Wesmen program where he will likely have an immediate impact.

According to Head Coach Dave Crook,

“Michael is a very gifted athlete who is also a smart basketball player that has a very good understanding of the game. Michael should be an important piece of the puzzle for the coming year. He will play a lot at wing and immediately make us a stronger team. We are very excited Michael will be joining the Wesmen program."
