TTTHREE MORE FORMER WESMEN JOIN MANITOBA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME


The University of Winnipeg Wesmen are pleased to announce the addition of three former Wesmen Basketball players to the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame.

Tanya (MacKenzie) McKay, Donna (Posnick) Twomey, and Gordon Tucker, join a growing list of former Wesmen players and coaches already in the Hall, including playing legends Ken Opalko and Beth Cochrane and coaching stalwartsVic Pruden and Bruce Enns.

Current Wesmen Women’s Basketball Coach Tanya McKay enters the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame after an outstanding five-year career with the Wesmen in the late 1980's and early 1990's. McKay joined the Wesmen in the fall of 1986 after starring for Sackville High School in Sackville, Nova Scotia. A proflic scorer, her resume includes three All-Canadian nods in 1989, 1990 and 1991 and Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Stars for those same three seasons. McKay was also Conference Rookie of the Year in 1987 and Most Valuable Player in 1989.

Donna (Posnick) Twomey graduated from Selkirk Collegiate in 1978 before heading for downtown Winnipeg and the Wesmen Women’s Basketball team. Her outstanding scoring ability earned her All-Canadian honours in 1981 and 1982 and Great Plains Athletic All-Star status for four straight seasons from 1980 to 1983.

Gordon Tucker spent five stellar seasons in the 1980's with the Wesmen after graduating from Westwood Collegiate. A gifted scorer, Tucker was an All-Canadian in 1985 and 1986 and is the fifth all-time leading scorer and third all-time leading rebounder for the Wesmen.
