The University of Winnipeg is please to announce that Head Coach Larry McKay and Jason Dufault have been honored with CIS Men's Volleyball Awards.

Larry McKay was presented tonight with the 2002 CIS Coach of the Year award for his work withthe University of Winnipeg Wesmen. McKay guided the second ranked Wesmen to a 15-5 record while competing in the toughest division in the nation.The 13-year veteran leader has seen all the hardware before. He’s won Coach of the Year honours in 1992-93 while last winning the Tantramar Trophy, the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship, in 1997-98.The Melfort, SK product has also spent several off-seasons with national programs. (FISU Games in Sheffield, England 1991, Buffalo, New York, '93, Sicily, Italy, 1997)"I have been fortunate to work at a university where a high priority is placed on performance. Resources have been allocated to ensure that a performance is an objective every year. Despite our size, one of the smallest student populations in all of CIS Men's Volleyball, our WesmenProgram has captured 9 National Championships to date. Counted in our alumni are many national team players and coaches (Garth Pischke, Wezer Bridle, Dennis Nord, Frank Enns, Mike Stephens, Ian Taylor). It has been and continues to be my great privilege to work at such a fine universitywith such a tradition of excellence in Men's Volleyball," concludes the36-year-old court general.

As well, Jason Dufault., the Wesmen’s 3rd year outside hitter, has been named a 1st team All-Canadian. A graduate of Glenlawn Collegiate, Jason has been a dominate player for the Wesmen this year, leading the team in serving and attacking categories. He started for the Wesmen in 1998 as a freshman when they won the National Championship and has been a member of the National and Junior National teams. Jason joins a very select team of players from across the country.
