Wesmen Women's Basketball Impressive In Victory
WINNIPEG, MB. - The Winnipeg Wesmen showed their true colors. The Wesmen got off to a slow start but the team re-grouped in the second half and came away with an impressive 70-55 against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gee’s in the opening game of the Converse Shootout Tournament at the Duckworth Centre. The game was tied 31-31 at halftime and it saw the Wesmen struggle at times as they shot 38% from the field in the first half. In the second half the Wesmen showed what kind of team they are. The Wesmen played aggressive defense and smart offense as they ran away from the Gee-Gee’s to cruise to the victory. Fifth year guard JoAnne Wells led the Wesmen with 16 points. Third year guard Uzo Asagwara and first year player Jenny Ezirim contributed with 15 points each for the Wesmen.
The Wesmen Player of the Game was guard Jenny Ezirim.

Wesmen Women's Basketball Fall to Cross Town Rival Bisons
WINNIPEG, MB. The Winnipeg Wesmen were their own worst enemy. The Wesmen had several give aways and turnovers as they fell to their cross town rivals University of Manitoba Bisons 74-63 at the Converse Shootout Tournament at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen got off to a slow start in this contest missing several open shots to go with several key turnovers at inappropriate times. The Bison’s shut down fifth year player and Wesmen leader JoAnne Wells, as she did not score her first basket until the 15:00 mark of the first half. Despite the slow start the Wesmen only trailed by six points at the half. In the second half the Bison’s continued to carry the play and for the Wesmen they struggled to catch up. Third year guard Uzo Asagwara was the leading Wesmen scorer with 16 points including three 3-pointers.
The Wesmen Player of the Game for the second consecutive game was guard Jenny Ezirim.

Wesmen 72 Lakehead 50
WINNIPEG, MB. The real Wesmen Women’s Basketball team showed up today. The Wesmen put yesterday’s loss to the Bisons behind them and came out on fire as they defeated the Lakehead University Thunderwolves 72-50 at the Converse Shootout at the Duckworth Centre. The team shot a respectable 48% from the field in the game and also controlled the boards out rebounding the Thunderwolves. The Thunderwolves kept up to the Wesmen in the first half and only trailed 31-27 at halftime. In the second half the Wesmen showed their strengths as they scored 41 second half points to run away with the game. Fifth year guard and tournament all-star JoAnne Wells led the Wesmen with 20 pts. Heather Thompson had a strong game by scoring 15 points and leading the team with eight rebounds.
