WESMEN ICE COLD IN LOSS TO SIMON FRASER

The number one ranking in the country was there for the taking, but the Wesmen could not capture that spot. The Wesmen played their worst game of the season in a 69-48 loss to the Simon Fraser Clan Friday night at Simon Fraser University. The Wesmen shot a horrific 28% from the field on their way to their lowest point total of the season. The Clan were inspired from the start as they drained four- three pointers before the game was five minutes old to keep the Wesmen attack off balance. Despite the teams shooting woes the Wesmen were only trailing by nine points at halftime by a score of 31-22. The Clan did their job focusing on the dynamic duo of JoAnne Wells and Uzo Asagwara who were held to five and eight points respectively in the first half. In the second half the Wesmen looked like a desperate team as they were missing easy baskets and shooting from every range possible. The Clan had their way with the Wesmen under the boards as they out rebounded the Wesmen 56-33. The team was playing without Heather Thompson who is the second leading rebounder in Canada West. Super rookie Jenny Ezirim gave the team a spark as she scored 12 points in the half to try to close the gap. Unfortunately for the Wesmen the Clan kept up their strong play and went on to defeat the Wesmen and in the process give the Wesmen their first regular season loss of the season. JoAnne Wells led the Wesmen with 17 points and Jenny Ezirim had 14 points in the loss. Simon Fraser was led in scoring by Devon Campbell who scored 18 points. The 12-1 Wesmen will not have too much time to think about the loss as they go right back to action on Saturday night when they battle Trinity Western University.

In the second half the Wesmen played hard and were trying to make up the defecit, but the Clan matched the Wesmen basket for basket to run away with the victory.
