WESMEN STAB PRONGHORNS TO STAY UNDEFEATED
Slow starts sometimes make for great finishes. This saying is true as the Winnipeg Wesmen rebounded from a slow start to defeat the Lethbridge Pronghorns
77-59 in front of 700 spectators Friday night at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen came to life halfway through the first half. After managing only four points in the games first five minutes, the Wesmen went on a 16-0 run, which was highlighted by JoAnne Wells scoring ten consecutive points. The team led at halftime 36-21 with Wells leading the way with 13 first half points. In the second half Lethbridge played better but the Wesmen lead was too much to overcome. The Wesmen won this game despite shooting only 41% from the field. JoAnne Wells led the Wesmen with 23 points and super-rookie Jenny Ezirim contributed 14 points in the win. Once again Ezra’s play impressed coach Tanya McKay “ she played incredible, 14 points in 25 minutes she was outstanding”, said McKay. Candace Thompson led the Pronghorns with 13 points. The Wesmen remain undefeated with a perfect 9-0 record and will look to improve that tomorrow night as they take on the Calgary Dinos at the Duckworth Centre. Game time is 6:15 p.m.

Lethbridge 94 WESMEN 85
SLOW START HURT WESMEN IN LOSS TO PRONGHORNS
A slow start and a hot shooting opponent hurt the Wesmen on this night. The Lethbridge Pronghorns shot 55% from the field to defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 94-85 at the Duckworth Centre Friday Evening. The Wesmen’s key players struggled in the first half and combined with Lethbridge connecting on 72% from three point territory gave the Pronghorns a 53-38 lead at halftime. Starters Erfan Nasajpour,Matt Opalko and Oliver Leslie combined for only four points in the first half. In the second half Nasajpour scored 18 points as the Wesmen came to life and closed the gap to five points. In the final 90 seconds the Pronghorns made the free throws that count and went on for the victory. Guard Erfan Nasajpour and forward Dan Shynkaryk led the Wesmen with 22 points each. Scott McKinnon of the Pronghorns scored 27 points, including 5-of-7 from three point territory. The Wesmen now sport a record of 1-8 and will face the Clagary Dinos tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.

WINNING STREAK AT NINE AND COUNTING
The Wesmen women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to nine matches with a 3-0 victory over Simon Fraser. Fifth year player Aynsley Laluk led the Wesmen with 11 kills and 12 digs and fellow fifth year player Andrea Charbonneau had 10 kills and 10 digs. Setter Christa Desrocher had 35 set assists in the match. The Wesmen now have a record of 9-2 and will face Simon Fraser tomorrow evening in British Columbia.

WESMEN BURY DINOS TO GET TO PERFECT “10”
A perfect “10” is the number to describe the Wesmen women’s basketball team. The Wesmen ran their record to a perfect 10-0 with a 69-55 victory over the Calgary Dinos in front of 800 spectators at the Duckworth Centre Saturday night. The Wesmen had their struggles in the first half shooting only 32% from the field and also watching the Dinos go on a 10-0 run to take the lead eight minutes into the game. The Wesmen being the great team they are were able to overcome their early struggles and open up a 34-21 lead at halftime. The dynamic duo of JoAnne Wells and Uzo Asagwara led the charge by scoring 17 and 10 points respectively in the first half. In the second half the Wesmen kept the Dinos at bay and were never threatened as they held off the Dinos charge and went on to the victory. Wells led the team scoring 24 points while Uzo Asagwara contributed with 20 points for the Wesmen. Heather Thompson had a great game under the glass as she grabbed 12 rebounds. The Dinos were led by Cory Bekkering with 16 points. The number two ranked Wesmen will next see action on Thursday January 13th as they travel to Brandon to take on the Bobcats.

WESMEN GET MUCH NEEDED WIN OVER DINOS
It is not how you do it just as long as you do it. The Wesmen used a solid first half to propel them to a hard fought 78-74 victory over the Calgary Dinos in front of 1000 spectators at the Duckworth Centre Friday night. The Wesmen connected on 52% from the field and scored 41 points in the first half to take a 41-31 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Wesmen also relied on the three point shot as they connected on 5-of-7 from three point territory, including two each from Erfan Nasajpour and Matt Opalko, who rebounded from a rough game the night before. In the second half the Dinos made it interesting as they fought back on numerous occasions to keep the Wesmen on their toes. In the end Matt Opalko sank four key free throws to seal the victory for the Wesmen. Once again Erfan Nasajpour led the Wesmen with 25 points, while Dan Shynkaryk and Matt Opalko contributed with 16 and 14 points respectively. Robert Wright had 28 points for the Dinos in a losing cause. The much needed win gives the Wesmen a record of 2-8 and a boost as they will head west to Brandon on Thursday January 13th to battle the Bobcats.
