OH SO CLOSE…

During the final against top-ranked Laval, the No. 8 Wesmen stormed out to a two set lead but couldn’t put the Rouge et Or away. The Quebec City based university came back to win the next three, including a 15-13 squeaker in the fifth set. WESMEN WATCH THUNDERBIRDS FLY OFF WITH SPLIT

The No. 8 ranked Wesmen took one of two matches from the No. 10 ranked UBC Thunderbirds during Canada West action at the Duckworth Centre on the weekend. The Wesmen, looking extremely sharp after a more than a month lay-off, swept the T-Birds 3-0 on Friday, but dropped a 3-1 decision to an enthusiastic UBC squad the next night. A tough 29-27 loss in the 4th set could have went either way.
4th year opposite hitter Stephen Ens picked up where he left off before exam break by averaging 16.5 kills and 7.5 digs over the two matches. 5th year setter Ryan Henley had 33 assists on both nights. Winnipeg’s record in the Canada West Conference is now at 4-8. The Wesmen are in Regina on the weekend for a two-match series with the Cougars.
