Headline: GETTING HEALTHY
Last Week:
The team split into two for an intra-squad last Wednesday. Team members battled it out in a competitive game but are itching to take on an outside opponent.
Coach Tanya McKay’s team has been fighting injuries the past two weeks with back injuries to guards Val Carson and Charmaine Izzard. They hope to start practicing again this week. The backcourt ranks are further depleted with 4th year player Heidi Schwartz out for two weeks with a foot injury.
This Week:
On Wednesday the team gets its first taste of real competition when the alumni visit the Duckworth Centre. Notables in the alumni line-up are Erin Soroko (3-time All-Canadian), Sara Henneberry, Brooke Bender, Marnie Nechwediuk, Lee Wedlake, and Roslynn Fast. Game time 7:30 pm at the Duckworth Centre on Wednesday night. A reception will follow the game.

Headline: WESMEN CONTINUE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Last Week:
Thursday night the alumni of the 9-time National Champion Wesmen returned to the Duckworth to take on the current squad. Strutting their stuff on the court were current and past National Team players and members of the last two National Championship teams (1998, 1987). When the dust settled, the alumni were able to find their former championship form in the best of 3 to win 2-1.
This Week:
This is the fourth week in a row that the Wesmen have contributed to the community. Along with the 300 coaches at the Winnipeg Outfitters Coaching Clinic, and 20 teams at each of the two previous weekend city and rural tournaments, the team will now be conducting a clinic Monday evening at College Jeanne Sauve for players in that area. Wednesday the team plays an exhibition match at the St.Vital area school at 1 pm and hope to attract students from the surrounding junior high schools as well. A second skills clinic follows the match. Wesmen alumnus Cam Johnson is a physical education teacher at the school.

This Week:
The team continues to practice in anticipation of their season opening tournament on Oct. 4-6th. On the opening night of Power 97/CJOB Invitational Tournament, the Wesmen take on last year’s OAU Champions in the University of Toronto.
