GENERAL WESMEN NEWS
The University of Winnipeg High School Girls Volleyball Tournament took place this past Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament was a great success as 20 teams from across southern Manitoba participated in the two-day event. The Selkirk Royals were the gold medal winners of the event as they defeated the Vincent Massey Collegiate (Winnipeg) team in a great gold medal match. The team from Vincent Massey High School in Brandon traveled to the event and took home the bronze medal. The MVP of the two-day tournament was Marlee Bragg from the Selkirk Royals.

This past Friday world renowned volleyball coach Glenn Hoag, was a featured presenter at the 25th annual Volleyball Coaching Seminar. Glenn who just got back from coaching the French national team at the Athens Olympics shared his knowledge of volleyball to over 200 volleyball coaches from across the city.

The annual Wesmen Men’s Invitational Tournament will be taking place this weekend. The tournament will feature 18 high school varsity teams from across Winnipeg, as well two teams from Saskatchewan will be heading to Winnipeg to participate in the tournament.

The Junior Wesmen Basketball Club in it’s first season attracted 150 youth from grades 6-12. A great response from a new and exciting program.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Wesmen Men’s Basketball coach Dave Crook held the teams 2004/2005 tryout camp on September 9th. Coach Crook is looking to fill some spots on the roster as a total of eight players from last year's team will not be returning. The team has five recruits who will try to earn a spot on the roster along with the hopefuls who attended the tryouts last week.

The hopefuls will continue to work out for the next couple of days and the cuts may come on Monday or Tuesday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Wesmen Women’s Basketball coach Tanya McKay held the teams 2004/2005 tryout camp on Monday September, 13th. There were 15 aspiring basketball players looking to impress coach McKay and earn a spot on the 2004/2005 team.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Wesmen Women’s Volleyball coach Diane Scott held the team’s annual try-outs last week. Coach Scott will be assisted this year by former Wesmen and Team Canada member Wanda Guennette who has many years experience and will be a great addition to coach Scott’s staff. The team will get a chance to show off their skills at the team annual intra-squad match on Wednesday evening.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Wesmen Men’s Volleyball coach Larry McKay will be conducting his tryouts for the 2004/2005 season for the next few days looking to add to his roster. The team will have a chance to impress Coach McKay by participating in the annual intra-squad game coming up on Wednesday evening.

ANNOUNCER WANTED
The Wesmen are currently seeking candidates to become the next “Voice of the Wesmen”. The responsibilities of this position are to be the public address announcer at all Wesmen home games. The ideal candidate must have a knowledge of Basketball and Volleyball.
