WESMEN PIZZA PLACE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Wesmen Pizza Place Male and Female Players of the Week have been announced, the winners are:

Marc De Spiegelaere, men’s volleyball – Marc had a great tournament this past weekend in Regina. Marc had 39 digs in five matches and also had a 2.6 out of 3 passed serve ratio.

Jenny Ezirim, women’s basketball – Jenny was named player of the game on two occasions at the Converse Shootout Tournament and also earned a tournament all-star selection.

GENERAL WESMEN NEWS

The Manitoba Brain Injury Association and the University of Winnipeg Athletic Therapy Students Association will be presenting “HEADS UP” Gala Fundraising Dinner on Thursday October 14, 2004 at 6 p.m. in Riddell Hall. Tickets are $100.00/each or $1000.00/table of 8. The featured speaker will be NHL player representative Don Baizely. The event will feature an auction where you can bid on game worn helmets autographed by pro sports teams as well as vintage Wesmen gear and vintage Blue Bomber helmets. Eight Jr. Wesmen Boys and Girls teams will be participating this weekend in the MAYB Canada inaugural Youth Basketball Tournament in Winnipeg

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The team participated this past weekend in the Converse Shootout Tournament at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen took on university teams from Manitoba, Lakehead and Ottawa. The team’s record was 2-1 as they defeated Ottawa and Lakehead but dropped a tough game to the University of Manitoba on Saturday night. Congratulations to JoAnne Wells and Jenny Ezirim as they were selected tournament all-stars. The team will be practicing hard this weekend for the University of Manitoba Invitational Tournament.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen Men’s Basketball team will finally be able to play against someone else besides each other. Coach Crook’s team is itching to face another team and they will get the chance this weekend as they travel to Waterloo, Ontario to play in the Wilfred Laurier Invitational.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen Men’s Volleyball had a great weekend in Regina. The team went undefeated at the East-West Volleyball Classic. The team defeated teams from Guelph, Manitoba, Waterloo, and McMaster. “ The preseason tournament this past weekend showed us what we have to work on before we begin league play in less than a month”, said head coach Larry McKay.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The team took this past week to concentrate on off-court training as they prepare to travel to North Dakota State in Fargo, North Dakota to take on the North Dakota State Bisons in a pair of exhibition matches this weekend.
