WESMEN PIZZA PLACE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Wesmen Pizza Place Male and Female Players of the Week are:

Owen Toews, men’s basketball - Owen had his best game of the season scoring 24 points including six-three pointers in a 75-71 loss to the Bisons on Friday night.

JoAnne Wells, women’s basketball - JoAnne averaged 29 points and 7 rebounds in leading the Wesmen to a pair of victories against the Bisons. In Friday’s game JoAnne scored 15 points in the final 13 minutes to pull out the win.

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen will be hosting their annual “Shoe Give-Away-Night” on Saturday December 4th as the Wesmen men’s team will host the University of Regina Cougars. Each team member in attendance will receive a ballot for a chance to win 12 pairs of basketball shoes for their team.To arrange free tickets or for further information please call Sheldon Appelle- Sport Information Coordinator @ 786-9823.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen continued their winning ways by defeating the University of Manitoba Bisons in a pair of games this past week. On Wednesday the Wesmen beat the Bisons 84-67 with the “dynamic duo” of JoAnne Wells and Uzo Asagwara scoring 30 and 26 points respectively. On Friday the Wesmen traveled across town to face the Bisons at the University of Manitoba and they were once again led by JoAnne Wells who scored 28 points in a 90-84 victory over the Bisons. The Wesmen will take their perfect 4-0 record on the road as they play weekend games against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the University of Alberta Pandas.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Men’s team opened up their 2004-2005 regular season dropping two straight games to the University of Manitoba Bisons. On Wednesday the team struggled in the first half and were down by as much as 22 points at one point. The team battled back in the second half to close the gap but the Bisons prevailed 65-62. Erfan Nasajpour led the team with 18 points. On Friday the team traveled to the U of M to look for revenge. Unfortunately despite a great effort the Bisons beat the Wesmen 75-71. The team will next see action this weekend as they travel to the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen made their regular season home debut in great fashion. The team played host to Trinity Western University and swept the weekend series. On Friday night the Wesmen beat the Spartans 3-1 (25-19,25-16,18-25,25-17).Jocelyne Roy led the Wesmen with 15 kills and 14 digs, while Andrea Charbonneau had another strong match with 14 kills and 7 digs. On Saturday a more focused Spartan team showed up and they took the Wesmen to five sets which saw the Wesmen win the match 3-2(25-13,20-25,19-25,25-17,15-9). Andrea Charbonneau had 18 kills and fellow fifth year player Aynsley Laluk had 16 kills and 16 digs in the victory. The team is now on a four match winning streak and will next see action against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Men’s volleyball team was in a battle all weekend as they hosted the second ranked Trinity Western University Spartans, On Friday night the Wesmen put up a good fight but were defeated 3-0 (25-23,25-22,25-14). Fourth year player Jarrod Small led the team with 6 kills. Marc De Spiegelaere had 5 digs and Ryan Bevan contributed with 4 blocks. On Saturday the Wesmen were focused and ready but unfortunately the Spartans prevailed 3-1(25-15,25-22,27-29,36-34). The match was one for the ages as both teams battled kill for kill, block for block. The Wesmen showed much improvement from Friday’s match and were so close in taking the match. Ben Schellenberg led the Wesmen with 18 kills while third year player Marc De Spiegelaere came up with 8 digs for the Wesmen. The Wesmen will next see action at home starting on Friday night as they host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a weekend series.
