WESMEN PIZZA PLACE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Wesmen Pizza Place Male and Female Players of the Week are:
Dan Shynkaryk, men’s basketball- Dan, a 2nd year player was a force for the Wesmen on the weekend averaging 21 points in a pair of losses to Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Christa Desrochers, women’s volleyball- Christa, a 3rd year setter, averaged 35 set assists and was very instrumental in helping the Wesmen to a pair of victories over Saskatchewan.

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen will be hosting their annual “Shoe Give-Away-Night” on Saturday December 4th as the Wesmen men’s team will host the University of Regina Cougars. Each team member in attendance will receive a ballot for a chance to win 12 pairs of basketball shoes for their team. The International Basketball Classic will be taking place at the Duckworth Centre on December 17 - December 19th, 2004. This tournament is open to all grades 3-12 club teams across Canada and the United States. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen are now riding a six match winning streak after sweeping the University of Saskatchewan Huskies over the weekend. On Friday the Wesmen simply dominated the Huskies by winning the match 3-0 (25-19,25-16,25-13). Andrea Charbonneau led the team with 12 kills and Jocelyne Roy contributed with 13 defensive digs. On Saturday the Huskies gave the Wesmen a better fight but in the end the team came through with a 3-0 victory (25-21,25-21,25-22). The Wesmen were led in this match by the duo of Charbonneau and Aynsley Laluk who had 16 and 12 kills respectively. The team now has a record of 6-2 and will next see action this weekend as they host the University of Regina.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen split their weekend series with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in what were two very spirited and entertaining matches. On Friday the Wesmen defeated the Huskies 3-2 in a battle (29-31,25-22,21-25,25-17,16-14). Ben Schellenberg was a force on this day as he had 19 kills and 10 defensive digs in the match. Jarrod Small was the hero as his key block in the fifth set gave the Wesmen the victory. On Saturday the team looked for the sweep but the Huskies rebounded with a 3-1 victory (25-27,25-27,25-19,17-25). The Wesmen now have a record of 2-4 and will look to improve on that as they face the University of Regina this weekend at the Duckworth Centre.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen women’s basketball team continued it’s hot streak as they won a pair of game this weekend on the road in Saskatoon and Edmonton. On Friday the Wesmen took their show to Saskatoon to meet the Huskies and they came away with an impressive 74-59 victory. JoAnne Wells led the squad with 19 points. On Sunday the team traveled to Edmonton to face the University of Alberta Pandas. The Wesmen came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record and they made it 6-0 as the Wesmen defeated the Pandas 73-59 with JoAnne Wells leading the way with 25 points and Uzo Asagwara contributing 22 points. The team will be at home this Thursday as they face the University of Brandon.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen men’s basketball team started a two game road trip with a 101-90 loss to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night in Saskatoon. Dan Shynkaryk had 24 points for the Wesmen while Erfan Nasajpour made his return from injury by scoring 18 points. On Sunday afternoon the team traveled to Edmonton to take on the University of Alberta, the team put in a great effort but fell 89-84 to the Golden Bears. Erfan Nasajpour led the Wesmen with 26 pts, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Wesmen male athlete of the week Dan Shynkaryk had 19 points in the loss. The team will next see action on Thursday evening as they host the University of Brandon.
