MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen Men’s Volleyball Team was on the road this past weekend in Calgary. The team went into the weekend with a 4-4 record and was looking to improve on that facing the 1-7 Dinos. The team looked well on their way to a victory on Saturday as they won the first two sets. Unfortunately for the Wesmen things fell apart as the Dinos stormed back to win the next three sets and take the match 3-2 ( 25-21, 25-14, 17-25, 11-25, 11-15). Ben Schellenberg and Jarrod Small each had 11 kills while Ryan Bevan had three service aces. On the defensive side Marc De Spiegelaere came up with seven digs. On Sunday afternoon things went from bad to worse for the Wesmen as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Dinos (26-24, 25-16, 25-22). Martin Rochon led the Wesmen on this day with nine kills. As if the loss was not bad enough the team was forced to play without Jarrod Small who re-injured a finger Saturday night and is hoping to be back in action after the Christmas break. The Wesmen now have a record of 4-6 and will next see action at the end of December as they travel to Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Invitational.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Wesmen Women’s Volleyball Team does not play a match until January 8th, 2005. The team has a solid record of 8-2 and is ranked number 5 in the country.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen Men’s Basketball Team had an up and down weekend series against the Regina Cougars. On Friday night the team picked up their first win of the regular season by defeating the Cougars 86-75. Forward Dan Shynkaryk was a force in this game scoring 27 points including 16 in the first half. Erfan Nasajpour who guaranteed a win in this game had a triple-double with 15 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. On Saturday the Wesmen were looking for their second win of the season, but a slow first half enabled the Cougars to race out to a 46-30 halftime lead. The team played a much better second half but the deficit was too much to overcome and the Cougars prevailed by a score of 90-83. The team now has a record of 1-7 and will next see action at the MTS Mobility Wesmen Classic at the end of the month.
