WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen women’s team ventured out to rainy British Columbia to face the Simon Fraser Clan and the Trinity Western University Spartans. On Friday it was the battle between the two top teams in the country. The Wesmen ranked number two in the country came into the game looking to knock off the Clan and earn the number one ranking. Unfortunately the Wesmen played their worst game of the season scoring a season low 48 points in a 69-48 loss. JoAnne Wells had 17 points while the best rookie in Canada West, Jenny Ezirim had 14 points. On Saturday the Wesmen of old showed up as they defeated the Spartans 70-50 in Langley. JoAnne Wells put the team on her shoulders and scored 26 points in the game, including 16 in the second half. The team now sports a 13-1 record and will face their archrivals from the University of Manitoba in games on Thursday at the Duckworth Centre and on Saturday at the U of M.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Wesmen men’s team have been playing better basketball as of late. This past weekend the team was in B.C. to challenge Simon Fraser and Trinity Western. In Friday’s game against Simon Fraser the Wesmen as they have done all season, fell behind their opposition. This game the Wesmen trailed 44-26 at halftime. In the second half, the Wesmen played hard but the deficit was too much as they were defeated 78-64. On Saturday it was off to Trinity Western and once the again the team buried themselves trailing 39-30 at halftime. In the second half the Wesmen outscored and outplayed the Spartans and actually had a chance to win the game in the final 30 seconds, but a questionable call gave the Spartans possession and they sank a 20 foot jumper with three seconds left to defeat the Wesmen 74-72. The 3-11 Wesmen will face the University of Manitoba in two very important games starting Thursday at the Duckworth Centre.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
